TERMS OF REFERENCE (2012/2013)
Purpose of the Committee
The Education Advisory Committee is appointed by the Registrar, Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 (REBBA 2002), to provide advice and recommendations on matters relating to the Continuing Education Policy (CE Policy) administered by the Office of the Registrar pursuant to Ontario Regulation 579/05 Section 4 and 5 (O. Reg. 579/05, Sec 4 - 5).
Chair and Membership
The Committee consists of two members as recommended by the Board of Directors and at least five additional members as appointed by the Registrar.

Duties, Functions or Responsibilities
- To review the CE Policy requirements to maintain broker or salesperson registration under REBBA 2002 pursuant to O.Reg 579/05, and make recommendations to the Registrar for amendments as required from time to time
- To review applications for approval as an education provider, and make appropriate recommendation to the Registrar to approve, defer or decline applications and course/seminar materials for CE credits pursuant to established education provider guidelines and/or course review guidelines
- To review and assess changes made to course materials previously approved for CE credit, and make appropriate recommendation to the Registrar pursuant to established course review guidelines
- To provide advice and recommendations as requested by the Registrar on the performance and effectiveness of education providers
- To provide advice and recommendations as requested by the Registrar on Education Department operational procedures relating to implementation and administration of the CE Policy
- To respond to inquiries and requests from the Registrar with respect to CE policies, criteria or related issues, as required from time to time
Meetings and Time Commitment
The Committee meets approximately 8 times a year to review courses submitted for CE credit approval and discuss current education related issues, as required. On average, Committee members review 3 to 5 courses from various providers in preparation for meetings. Formal meetings last 3 to 6 hours with course review preparation time required of 2 to 8 hours per meeting. The total monthly time commitment varies from 5 to 14 hours. The Committee may meet either face-to-face or by conference call.
Staff Contact and Budget
The staff contact for the Committee is the Manager, Regulatory Learning & Professional Development; the Education Analyst and Education Administrator provide support. The budget for the Committee is established annually by the Board of Directors. No expenditures or commitments against that budget may be made without the authorization of the Registrar.
