As one of the requirements to maintain RECO registration, all real estate agents and brokers (with a continuing education (CE) requirement) must complete CE requirements starting in their second two-year registration cycle.

This ensures agents stay updated with industry knowledge and practices.

Updates in CE courses

RECO releases one mandatory annual update course every year, typically in January. This provides agents and brokers with up-to-date information on key changes in legislation and emerging trends in Ontario’s real estate landscape.

Current CE requirements

To successfully renew registration, agents and brokers are required to complete the following during each of their two-year registration cycles:

  • Two mandatory annual update courses: These courses focus on the latest industry standards, changes to legislation and related responsibilities, and best practices.
  • Two elective courses: Agents and brokers can customize learning by selecting two courses from a course catalogue offering a variety of topics aligning with different professional interests and career goals.

CE electives that fit individual needs

CE electives are designed to address various areas within the real estate industry, enhancing expertise and keeping agents and brokers ahead in the field. The course catalogue includes offerings in:

  • Advertising compliance
  • A guide to brokerage inspections
  • Business analysis for real estate professionals
  • Business planning
  • Compliance and ethics in real estate, part 1
  • Compliance and ethics in real estate, part 2

  • Human rights fundamentals
  • Introduction to commercial leasing
  • Mortgage financing: guiding client conversations
  • MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corporation)

By ensuring compliance with CE requirements, agents and brokers fulfil their professional obligations and enhance their capabilities to better serve clients and advance their careers.
