As the regulator of real estate agents and brokerages, RECO plays an important role in protecting consumers by setting educational requirements for real estate agents.

Real estate is a regulated profession in Ontario. Anyone working as a real estate agent or broker must be registered with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). To register as a real estate agent in Ontario, an individual must first complete an education program offered by one of RECO's designated providers.

Educational requirements

RECO’s education programs have been developed to ensure learners are equipped with the knowledge they need to comply with the law while serving clients.

These programs complement the competency profiles established by the Real Estate Regulators of Canada (RERC). These competency profiles have been developed in consultation with real estate regulators across Canada. Adopting these competency profiles ensures consistent professional competencies across Canada.
