Moving to multiple education providers is a longstanding component of RECO’s vision for real estate education in Ontario. Multiple education providers will help provide more diverse learning opportunities and empower learners across the province with a greater degree of flexibility and choice to meet their educational needs.

RECO has approved four post-secondary institutions to deliver real estate education in Ontario: Algonquin College, Career College Group, Fleming College and Humber Polytechnic. The providers were chosen after a robust application and evaluation process to ensure they meet RECO’s requirements and standards.

Applications were evaluated by a team of cross-disciplinary experts from RECO using 46 standards and requirements as criteria. The selection process included written submissions, in-person presentations, risk assessments, and reference checks.

Yes. One of RECO’s key responsibilities is to set requirements for real estate education in Ontario through its high-quality, industry-leading curriculum. Each approved institution will deliver RECO’s comprehensive program. RECO’s program was redeveloped in 2019 and includes experiential learning through mandatory simulation sessions based on real estate transactions that better prepare learners for the real-world demands of working in the real estate sector. The program is designed to give future agents the foundation they need to start their real estate careers and to facilitate a strong understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements of the profession.

Along with this comprehensive standard curriculum, each of the providers will have the opportunity to offer unique features that can further enhance the learning experience for their learners. This may include value-add courses beyond those required by RECO to meet compliance obligations and networking opportunities. Yes. In Fall 2024, RECO appointed Meazure Learning as the independent exam provider that will begin delivering all real estate exams for learners of new providers by mid-2025. Having a single, centralized exam provider ensures that all learners undergo the same rigorous, standardized examination process. Learners currently enrolled in the program delivered by NIIT/Humber Polytechnic will be able to complete their coursework until early September 2025. Humber and NIIT are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for current learners as the program begins to wind up its operations. Current learners should reach out to Humber directly for more details about their specific circumstances.

The program you are transferring to includes updated content designed to reflect changes in legislation under the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA). It's important to note that TRESA is not new legislation but rather the updated name for the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 (REBBA), along with amendments to modernize and strengthen the legislation.

To support a smooth and successful transition, we strongly encourage you to complete the TRESA Update Course available on the RECO website. The course is free of charge and requires no sign-up or registration. It provides key information on legislative changes and helps bridge any gaps between the former and current curriculum. The course contains critical information on trading in real estate in Ontario and is essential to support registrants to meet compliance requirements under TRESA.

The new providers will begin accepting learners in July 2025. For more details, please visit reco.on.ca/learners or contact the specific institution directly.

The contract between RECO and NIIT in partnership with Humber was originally set for five years and was extended for an additional year to mid-2025, with the understanding that RECO would be moving from a single education provider to multiple providers.

Education institutions from across the province were invited to participate in the application process to become a provider of real estate education in Ontario, including the incumbent. Following this process, Humber Polytechnic, was selected to be among the four providers, along with Algonquin College, Fleming College and Career College Group.

RECO’s decision to move from a single provider to multiple education providers is part of the organization’s longstanding strategy to elevate real estate education in Ontario and provide learners with more choice and flexibility to complete their education requirements.

As with the current program, the majority of instruction will remain online to allow for a seamless, consistent and streamlined learning experience. Further, the program will continue to include in-person simulation sessions and options for in-person examinations and facilitated review sessions to support learner choice.

If you are currently enrolled in the program with NIIT/Humber Polytechnic, you will be able to complete your coursework until early September 2025. Humber and NIIT are working to ensure a smooth transition for current students as the program phases out.

You can continue your studies at Humber Polytechnic, who will also keep you informed about specific deadlines related to course completion and examinations.

If you prefer to start your real estate education now, you can enrol in the program with NIIT/Humber Polytechnic until June 30, 2025. This would allow you to begin coursework sooner. Learners should contact Humber Polytechnic directly for more details regarding their specific circumstances.

If you prefer to enrol with one of the new education providers, please visit reco.on.ca/learners for more information on registration timelines.

Starting in July 2025, learners will have the flexibility to choose from four different providers. Moreover, new providers may offer different learning experiences, such as unique course features or additional support services. By mid-2025, standardized exams will be implemented to ensure a consistent and uniform examination process across all providers.

To transfer from Humber Polytechnic, continue with them after September 30, 2025, or register with a new designated education provider, you will need a RECO ID. A RECO ID is required to enrol in any approved real estate education program and ensures your education progress is tracked correctly.
