Program structure

The post-registration program consists of two essential components: a mandatory compliance course and a choice of two elective specialization opportunities.

  • Mandatory compliance course
This course focuses on the legal responsibilities of real estate agents under the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA), the law that governs the sector. Participants will gain insight into maintaining compliance during all stages of a real estate transaction, managing non-compliance issues, and maintaining their registration.
  • Elective courses
Real estate agents must select two of the five elective courses to complete this program. Specialized topic areas include rural and waterfront properties, real estate investment strategies for residential and commercial properties, and alternative ownership structures such as co-ownership and leaseholds. These electives provide advanced, targeted knowledge to help agents build expertise in niche markets and attract a diverse clientele.

This program structure allows real estate agents to choose their areas of focus, refine and reinforce their knowledge and behaviors to stay compliant with regulations, and gain a competitive edge by acquiring specialized knowledge. By completing the post-registration program, agents fulfil the requirements for registration renewal after their initial two-year cycle, while also enhancing their career prospects in Ontario’s dynamic real estate industry.
