The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) is seeking one (1) Financial Analyst. We have one temporary, full-time position available to start immediately.

The role

Reporting to the Director Finance & Accounting, the Financial Analyst is responsible for the oversight of all accounting and reporting activities. They will ensure that RECO has the systems and procedures in place to effectively support various programs and operations while adhering to CPA Canada generally accepted accounting principles for not-for-profit organizations. This role will work closely with RECO senior management and department heads and the Director, Finance & Accounting to ensure sound financial decision making and efficient use of resources across the organization.

Position responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and reports on variances,
  • Review financial transactions for consistency in reporting of expenses across departments, while following up with departments regarding critical variances
  • Prepare monthly schedule of insurance receipts and record revenue amortizations
  • Prepare monthly RST and HST returns
  • Prepare preliminary monthly variance analysis reports
  • Ensure timely distribution of monthly financial reports to department heads
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
  • Ensure compliance with current GAAP requirements and tax regulations.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal control procedures consistent with RECO policies.
  • Oversee the financial related information within RECO’s registrant database.
  • Contribute to the organization’s financial and business planning process, including the annual budget
  • Assist the Director with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Coordinate activities between in-house staff and external auditors.
  • Plan short- and long-term cash flows and assess financial performance
  • Advise on and participate in the financial aspects of contracts and calls for tender
  • Develop, implement, and use tools, dashboards, metrics, and ratios for managing and analyzing financial statements
  • Develop, review and update financial-related policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and experience

  • Training and experience in accounting and finance, such as a degree in business and a professional accounting designation recognized by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada);
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting and/or finance, preferably with a non-profit organization;
  • Experience in fund accounting and the use of deferred accounting practices;
  • Experience in managing external audits and drafting financial statements, forecasts, and cash flow projections;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, providing financial information in a timely manner and as requested;
  • Ability to adapt to changing accounting and organizational skills and to be proactive in approach.
  • Ability to effectively communicate financial information, written and oral, in a concise and understandable manner to staff, senior management, the Board and committees;
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office products, including advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, complex functions, etc).
  • Experience working with SAGE, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP Concur and Power BI is considered an asset.
