RECO is designated by the provincial government as the administrative authority responsible for administering and enforcing the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA) and its associated regulations. The provincial government continues to be responsible for TRESA and its associated regulations, as well as general oversight of RECO.

TRESA is a consumer protection statute that governs the conduct of real estate brokerages and agents trading in real estate in Ontario. Prior to December 1, 2023, the title of the legislation was the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 (REBBA).

Public submissions to government

From time to time, the government consults on proposed changes from the sector and the public. RECO’s submissions to the government address specific topics and questions raised through public consultation and forward proposed legislative reforms for consideration.
