RECO Collaboration Summit report: What we heard on education and professional standards

The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) has released its report from the RECO Collaboration Summit: Advancing Excellence in Real Estate Education & Professional Standards, capturing insights from over 100 leaders across the real estate sector on the future of education and professional standards.

The Collaboration Summit focused on three key areas: aligning education with practice readiness, strengthening assessment confidence to ensure ongoing competence, and enhancing consumer protection in an increasing complex market within a modern, risk-responsive regulatory framework.

A central theme emerged:

Education is a critical tool in protecting consumers and strengthening the profession—and it must continue to evolve to reflect the realities of practice.
— Jean Lépine, Administrator and Acting CEO, RECO

Key findings include:

  • Clear areas of consensus across the sector on the need to strengthen competency across the profession
  • Broad support for more practical, applied learning
  • A clear shift toward continuous, risk-based education
  • Opportunities to leverage data to better target learning

The insights gathered will inform the next phase of RECO’s education modernization work, guiding the development of our renewed education strategy.
