RECO introduces multiple education providers to deliver real estate learning across Ontario

Toronto, ON – March 6, 2025
The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO), the regulator of real estate agents and brokerages in Ontario, announced today the four providers that will deliver real estate registration education across the province, beginning to accept new students in the summer of 2025.

This initiative will provide learners with greater flexibility and choice, as leading institutions will deliver the comprehensive program that was fully redeveloped in 2019. The curriculum features experiential learning and mandatory simulation sessions based on real-world transactions that better prepare learners for the demands of trading in real estate.

"Since 2014, RECO has been committed to elevating real estate education in Ontario through its research and industry consultations,” said Joseph Richer, Registrar at RECO. “This latest initiative aligns with our long-term vision and marks a significant step forward, offering learners greater choice while maintaining the rigorous education standards required for the real estate services sector to meet the needs of those they represent and engage with.”

After a thorough application process, RECO has approved four institutions to deliver real estate registration education in Ontario:

  • Algonquin College
  • Career College Group
  • Humber Polytechnic
  • Sir Sanford Fleming College of Applied Arts and Technology (Fleming College)

In addition to course materials that fully incorporate all updates reflecting legislative and regulatory changes to the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA), some providers may offer value-added courses, experiences, and networking opportunities, further enriching the overall learning experience.

To ensure consistency and quality in assessments across all education providers, as RECO has previously announced, Meazure Learning, a leading independent examination provider, will administer standardized exams in conjunction with the launch of multiple education institutions.

Dr. Julie Beauchamp, Senior Vice President, Academic, Algonquin College, said: “This partnership between Algonquin College and RECO underscores our mutual commitment to excellence in education and professional training. By working together, we are equipping future real estate professionals with the essential knowledge and skills required to thrive in a dynamic industry. We take pride in our collaboration with RECO to foster high-quality learning opportunities that will benefit both our learners and the broader real estate sector.”

"Career College Group is honoured to be selected as a designated education provider for real estate training in Ontario," said Peter Dykstra, CEO of Career College Group. "With over 50 years of experience in post-secondary education across healthcare and skilled trades, we are committed to delivering high-quality, outcome-driven training that equips learners with the skills and confidence to succeed. We look forward to working alongside RECO and our fellow designates to uphold the highest standards in real estate education and advance excellence in the field."

Dr. Theresa Knott, Acting Co-President and EVP, Academic at Fleming College, said: “This program is a game-changer for aspiring real estate professionals in Eastern Ontario. By expanding access to this program, we’re enabling more people to pursue flexible and rewarding careers while contributing to the local economy. The rural-focused simulations make this program especially valuable for our community, preparing graduates to excel in the unique dynamics of this region.”

“Humber Polytechnic has been providing real estate education since 2019 and we are committed to continuing to deliver an exceptional learning experience through facilitators who are industry experts and our leading customer service excellence model,” says Jennifer O’Brien, Vice-President, People(s), Culture & Organizational Excellence, Humber Polytechnic. “As a leader in continuous and professional learning, we will continue to collaborate with RECO as a delivery partner to support the broader real estate sector and those seeking to enter the profession or enhance their education within the industry.”

Transition for existing learners

Transition plans are in place for existing learners in the real estate education program currently offered by NIIT Canada in collaboration with Humber Polytechnic, which will cease accepting new learners in the spring. Learners at NIIT/Humber Polytechnic will be able to continue completing courses through September (exact dates will be announced in the coming weeks), with supplemental TRESA content in pre- and post-registration courses.
